Run up to Easter

Been a busy week with moving straw, machinery and collecting buildings.

Security has improved by adding 14 cctv cameras, perimeter alarms, ordered 3 security gates and 2 buildings.
Cesar tags have been fitted to all vehicles and window etching.

Julian has been making a new parking area at the farm.
Started improving the farm tracks for articulated lorries.
Cladding replaced above Fortwilliam after the forklift caught the sheets.
Rain water harvesting has been installed with 10000 litre tank for the sprayer.

Roy Barber Retires from J8 PXF

Roy Barber who Joined PX Farms as the second Lorry driver on 10th July 2006 driving a Scania J1 PXF and then a new DAF J8 PXF retired at 66 years on 31st October 2012. He has taken up Fishing and gardening and getting up at a normal hour. We had a retirement party in the house and we wish Roy and his family a happy retirement and thank him for all his hard work.

Spring has come early

The first date of spring is 20th March. It feels today as if its started early. Great action has exploded at PX. Sulphur and nitrogen and TSP is being applied by Sammy with the spreader. Chris has started cultivating ready for Spring beans to be drilled and is off spraying fungicides on to emerging plantings after winter. Tim Radford has done a wonderful job hedge laying in Dry Drayton on the new piece of land we have bought. It's a wonderful feeling to be back on the land since being rained off mid October.

Ups and Downs

Woke this morning to find we had 8981 litres of tractor diesel stolen worth excess £6400,00.
Hedge planting has started on the recently dug out ditch.
Hit a water pipe today, causing a small flood.
Managed Hedge cutting and liquid fertilising on the land.
Fertiliser spreader has been put on ready for optimistic sulphur spreading to boast the oil seed rape.
Two Swans have graced us on the farm pond.

John Deere wheel extensions

John Deere 7530 has some extensions built for controlled traffic farming. These extensions are 1.8 metres between the tyres which is our wheel spacing. Charles Padfield from Padco made the extensions especially for our requirement. This was the last machine to have the adjustment made which means we are 100% Controlled Traffic Farmed for 2013. It's first application will be apply sulphur fertiliser.

Homeward bound

On route from Louisville Kentucky to Chicago we found an agricultural auction site which had 10's of acres of machinery lined up.

Went to the Willis (sears) building which is the tallest in USA and was the tallest in the world until 2004 you can see as far as four states on a clear day.

Called in at a cowboy shop and found the jeans didn't fit.

Kentucky AG show

Kentucky Agricultural show is the largest undercover in USA. Arrived here with Andrew, Tam, and Tamash who farm in Hungary. Also caught up with The Ries's who farm in Minneapolis.
